Lessons learned lead to exciting developments
Laser mentor initiative announced
8 December 2011 –The launch of our blended learning initiative has been very well received. Now that one cohort has completed the knowledge sessions and others are underway, Ruth Webster, our CEO went out and about to meet learners and conduct a review.
While most of the feedback has been positive; our first Laser Learners have been very helpful in highlighting areas where we can improve. In particular, we have identified that the self-study element, supported by Laser Learning can present some challenges to those who are less technically minded.
"Laser is a very good service as work can be uploaded as soon as it is finished, which enabled me to be worry free."
"Found Laser completely accessible and helpful and really enjoyed this way of uploading work. I especially found the videos helpful however it would be more helpful if videos covered more evidence and criteria. Found tutor very easy to understand and completely knowledgeable."
We pride ourselves on delivering exciting, fun and meaningful training experiences, so we are keen to make sure that we get this right. As a result, we have identified that internet access during the training sessions is vital and we have invested in a portable internet hub to facilitate this. Furthermore, additional Laser sessions will be added to the knowledge programme from January and we continue to work with Laser Learning to improve the service.
At the same time, our review identified that some learners find the process relatively easy to follow and so we are introducing a new support programme. "Laser Mentors" will be handpicked learners who have mastered the self-study process and are keen to support future learners by sharing their knowledge.
In the first instance, candidates for "Laser Mentors" will be invited to an informal meeting. Those willing to take part will then attend a mentoring training session, to cover aspects such as the role of the mentor and setting professional boundaries.
If you are interested in becoming a "Laser Mentor", please let us know.
