Children learn through play

The Pre School Learning Alliance has a tremendous reputation for making a difference to the lives of children, families and parents in the local community. So, we decided that the best way to help them celebrate their 50th anniversary was to offer a 'gift training event'.

Yesterday, staff, parents and children were invited to take part in two outdoor play sessions. Each session lasted an hour and in that time, everyone enjoyed taking part in the activities tailored to making the most of what the winter has to offer. This included building tents and making animals from natural resources, such as leaves, pine cones and twigs.

Shelagh Knight, Manager at the Direct Service Provision for the Ealing Pre School Learning Alliance says "The sessions had a tremendous benefit for all. In such a short time, we saw children exercise their creative side and develop some good life skills. For example, one child made a pine cone butterfly and another enjoyed making the tent so much that he stepped out of his brother's shadow for the first time and played on his own!

What's more, the parents were amazed at how much their children can learn through play. Many people think that we only learn when we are sitting down in a classroom, so seeing how much they took in during the outdoor play sessions was fantastic. Hopefully, it will encourage more parents to do the same. Thank you to Crêchendo for making this such a great experience."
